Bromance is a wonderful part of Korean Dramas. There is even a Taiwanese drama entitled Bromance. But this article is about the Bromance between two actual straight males and not between a guy and a girl pretending to be a guy.
This is the definition on of bromance on urban dictionary: Describes the complicated love and affection shared by two straight males. I feel like this is a pretty accurate definition. In my top five list there is only one pair of men that are actually friends from start to finish. Most of the time it starts out as a rivalry or even hate and then blends into a complicated mess of feels for the viewers.
This is my top five favorite bromances:
- Goblin-
I think pretty much everyone is going to agree with me on this one. I mean the Reaper and Goblin relationship was one of the best ones I have seen in the kdrama world. I have read many reviews of people who watched the show primarily for this relationship rather than the main one. They are so cute together.
- Descendants of the Sun
If it weren’t for Goblin, I really think this one could have been the best. These two guys are so funny together. I love how they are both manly men who are a little terrified of their girlfriends.
- I Remember You
I am a sucker for bromances between actual brothers. These two were so cute together! I loved their dynamic and how desperately they wanted to try and repair their somewhat broken relationship. And the choices they made to protect one another really made you feel how important they were to each other.
- Pinocchio
Another bromance between brothers. They both made mistakes, but they didn’t let that keep them from taking steps towards redemption. But even more moving was the bromance between the fake brothers. I don’t really know how to describe them. But it was just so adorable to watch that grumpy Ahjussi calling our little Dal Po his Hyung.
- Heirs
Okay so this one is the rockiest in this category. The actual love and affection part of bromance is on the sparse side, but the complicated part is covered. There are many bromance couples: Kim Tan and his Hyung- Kim Won, Kim Won and Yoon Jae Ho, Kim Tan and Sunbae Hyo-Shin, Oppa Young Do and Myung Soo. But I think the one we all shipped the hardest was Young Do and Kim Tan.
There are so many more examples that could be listed. And I am sure there are some that should be higher on this list, but what can I say? I haven’t watched EVERY drama…yet, but hey, I have goals. In fact, while doing research for this, I found many hints of a beautiful bromance in the drama School 2013, so now I guess I will have to watch that. Darn it. So, what’s your favorite bromance?
you should see the bromance in “A Gentleman’s Dignity” dear… it will really crack you up. ^_^

I know. And I have the bad habit of starting a bunch all at once until I find one I can’t stop. It’s how I used to read books too.

I love good bromance shows and I have a whole blog dedicated to Brothers and their relationships and have thought about adding bromance to it. I haven’t delved into Kdrama yet but your post has me very much intrigued to check it out now.

I have watched Descendants of the Sun like so many times. When I’m sad I watch my fave episodes and they instantly cheer me up. Right now, I’m watching Goblin and I try to watch just 1 episode per day as I have a tendency to watch till my head hurts. Haha.
